SAMPLE ITINERARY

Backcountry Colorado

Day 1 – Arrive and meet your guides at the Grand Junction (recommended) or Denver International Airport. We will stop in scenic and historic Glenwood Springs, where the Roaring Fork River meets the Colorado River, and ride bikes up valley on the paved Rio Grande Trail. In Carbondale, we will take a tour of Marble Distillers, the newest boutique distillery in
the state, and enjoy a three-course dinner with locally sourced Rocky Mountain ingredients. After dessert, we’ll drive up the Crystal River Valley to Redstone and check in to our riverside lodge, where we can spend the night around a raging bonfire. 2 hours drive time from Grand Junction airport. 4 hours from Denver International airport.

 

Day 2 – Fuel up with a gourmet breakfast at the Redstone Inn before heading to Old Snowmass to explore the spectacular Capitol Creek Valley by horseback. Lunch will be on the trail under the shadow of 14,131-foot Capitol Peak. Explore nearby Snowmass Village in the evening, followed by a three-course dinner at one of Snowmass’ delicious restaurants. 1 hour drive time.
 

Day 3 – Breakfast will be followed by an all-day Jeep tour in the backcountry of the majestic Elk Mountains. We will head up the front side of Aspen Mountain to 12,000 feet before traversing Richmond Ridge to Taylor Pass, overlooking the scenic Taylor Lake. We will then explore the ghost town of Ashcroft, where a saloon and post office still stand from the 1800’s,
before heading back to Snowmass Village. We will enjoy a BBQ dinner at a rustic cabin on Snowmass Mountain accessed by Jeep and relax around a roaring fire under the starry Rocky Mountain sky. No drive time.

 

Day 4 – After breakfast, we will make the scenic drive to Telluride, a Victorian mining town set at the end of a dramatic box canyon. We will enjoy lunch in charming downtown Telluride, followed by an afternoon adventure in the surrounding San Juan mountains. Each guest will have 2-3 customized active adventures to choose from. Dinner will be on your own in Telluride. 4 hours drive time.
 

Day 5 – Enjoy a hearty breakfast before we head out into the backcountry for a high-country llama trek. We will load our gear on the llamas at 10,222-foot Lizard Head Pass, with views of prominent Lizard Head peak. Our destination is High Country Camp, a backcountry hunting camp that provides plenty of scenery and comfort. Enjoy a hearty meal at the hut
followed by an evening around the campfire. 1 hour drive time.

 

Day 6 – Following a catered breakfast at the hut, we will explore the San Juan mountains with our guide and our llamas. Our day trek will take us through some breathtaking terrain and lunch will be on the trail. Dinner will be a catered meal at the hut. No drive time.
 

Day 7 – Following our last meal at High Country Camp, we will hike back to our vehicle, say goodbye to the llamas and drive to colorful Crested Butte. We will have some downtime to check into our lodge and explore Crested Butte’s quirky downtown before you choose one of Crested Butte’s fabulous eateries for dinner. 3 hours drive time.
 

Day 8 – After breakfast, we will head into the mountains around Crested Butte for a day hike that highlights the area’s alpine scenery and Colorado wildflowers. Lunch will be on the trail. Dinner will be a three-course meal in Crested Butte. No drive time.
 

Day 9 – After breakfast we will depart for the airport. 3 hours drive time to Grand Junction airport. 5 hours drive time to Denver International airport.
